Solo presentation within the framework of the AON AWARD 2010 at the Museum of Fine Arts,
Ghent (Belgium), 2011

The exhibition ‘Sarah Westphal: Palimpsest’ is conceived as a vivid, associative dialogue with old and modern
masters from the permanent collection of the museum. Sarah Wstphal looks at the collection with a ‘baroque
view’, from aside, in order to investigate and rediscover it from a new perspective. This view from aside,
together with the play of two- and three-dimensionality and the fold, has a prominent role in her work;
metaphors for an imagery world of the interplay, of depth and surface, inside and outside, the visible and
the invisible, the self and the other.
